Jayd has been a judge since the moment she entered the imperium. After her training, she was assigned to travel from world to world, hearing capital cases and watching over the sentences from fines to executions. Her companions include a sentient ship named Harry and whatever executioner is assigned to her. The executioners never last long.

Truanic is her newest executioner and not only is he the man for the job, he is also the man for her. She just has to make the first move.

Jayd was changed the moment she decided come to the aid of a Ontex and from then forward she is known as Judge Dex for the Nyal Imperium. She goes through executioners like candy and a new one is needed. Executioner Truanic comes to be her partner in justice where she judges and he carries out the sentence. He is good for her and she finds she can relax on her off time with him. They are both good characters and lead quite unique lives. What I liked the best was that when Jayd's blood mixed with the Ontex, she took on the Ontex's skin type except for a round circle that was left on her forehead where her sister kissed her goodbye and then she had a moon tattooed over her original skin color to remind her of her Hispanic heritage. It was a short read but a good one when you don't have the time to read a long novel.

Jaded edition by Viola Grace Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

If you want a hero with a an unusual profession, try this one executioner. He kills with electronic impulses so it isn't gory but the weight of his job and the heroine's (a telepathic judge) makes for an interesting romance and set of characters.

The hero's backstory and the building of his culture was less developed than I would like but a good read overall.

thoroughly enjoyed the novella, “Jaded,” especially the beginning where we get to see how Jayd Gonzalez (Judge Drex) came to space- not as a Volunteer, but as a medical case. Jayd, or Judge Drex, developed a pretty awesome ability after she went out of her way to save an alien on Earth. Of course, no good deed goes unpunished, and she is now a mix of Terran and Ontex species.

Judge Drex uses her acquired psychic abilities, as well as her inborn sense of justice, to officiate cases around the Galaxy. She requires an Executioner to accompany her, to mete out justice if necessary. Unfortunately, she seems to burn through them in a rather alarming rate. Her newest Executioner, Truanic or Ex-Hess, appeals to her mind and her body. Of course, she can’t get involved with her Executioner, right? Ah-hem.

This is another excellent installment in the Terran Tales saga. Each book is stand alone, so don’t worry if you haven’t read any others! There is excitement, intrigue, court cases, vacation get aways, Guardians, and a talking ship involved that will keep you greatly entertained. This one will definitely go in my “re-read” pile.
good story but a little confusing over the trial and the process Jayd uses to judge. Loved the down to Terra attitude she has.
Isn't that just like life, give a person a hand, and watch your back. Always nice to think you can get up and get back into the swing of things. Jade made me feel good.
jayd and truanic were an ecellant pairing and their story had a new feel to iti really enjoyed. the judges life style was interesting and i was surprised by the ending after i thought there woul be an enemy attack. this will be one ill reread.
After working as hard as the main heroine in this book, I can imagine how she must have felt until action and romance started. Good fun reading.
Jayd was involved in an accident and was exposed to incompatible alien blood. The Volunteer Center offered a cure if she signed. She was augmented and trained to be a judge. Truanic was her bailiff and executioner. They made quite the power couple. She was actually in the very first Terran Times.
